As I did in my last article, I will start this article with my own story. Nearly eleven years ago, when I first found out about WineShop At Home, I fell in love with the concept. I knew I wanted to be my own boss, and I knew I wanted to do something in the wine world. I was leery of the direct sales model, but decided to sign up as a wine consultant. And I’ve never looked back.
Last week I talked about the three reasons WineShop At Home is not your normal direct sales company: 1) We are all about helping people have more fun with wine; 2) Wine tastings are the core of what WineShop At Home does; 3) WineShop At Home is a very nice company.
This week, the focus will be on the product itself. We’ll look at why wine is not your normal party plan business.
Two Reasons Wine Is Not Your Normal Party Plan Business
Wine Appeals to Men and Women
Very few other party-plan companies appeal equally to men and women. Okay, I have to be honest and tell you that in my 10 years of being a wine consultant, I’ve done tastings for groups of women or for groups of women and men. I’ve never done a tasting just for men. But it could happen.
The bottom line is that it’s very nice to have a product where you don’t need to exclude half of the buying population.
Wine Is Fun to Study
Whether you know a lot or a little about wine, there’s always more to learn. And because wine tasting is involved, the learning is always fun. This is a key reason that I have so many repeat wine tasting hosts.
When I think of other direct sales companies, I have a hard time thinking of a product that is quite as much fun to learn about.
